evolution of Kuya's SURVIVAL skills

2006 - crying
2007 - whining
2008 - grabbing
2009 - grabbing
2010 - grabbing  + pointing + "want"
2011 - He will try his best to do anything himself and if all fail, he will grab or say "hep!" "open" "give" "i want ____"
2012 - "help!" "fix" "i want" "let's go" "let me go!" "don't want" "give me"
2013

  • "help!" "fix" "i want" "let's go" "let me go!" "don't want" "give me"
  • Mommy help me! Daddy help me! Miguel help me! Tita Mae help me! (as the case may be)
  • More _______ (food) please.
  • Study!?
  • Let's go Paul and Tim's house.
  • Snacks!?

He got stuck at the "grabbing" years despite lots of therapies and efforts but we never gave up. He started to shine last year which made us so happy and excited! Now, It's only the 1st quarter but look how he shows off! Can you imagine my JOY? I guess you won't lol! It's like PRICELESS... So happy and thankful because now, I'm really sure he wont get hungry or whatever because he definitely knows how to ASK FOR HELP....

And he is only SEVEN :D:D:D

precious comments

Although he can sing a song, recite a prayer, read a book, Kuya only talks when he NEEDS something. He can already say 3-word requests. But no SPONTANEOUS comments...

But lately, he's been making one-word COMMENTS!!!

"KUYA!" pointing to his photo in a handmade book.
"BIRD!" at the park.
"VEGETABLE!" Just a minute ago.. seeing his favorite chicharo ulam on the table :)

Comments are HUGE because they are NOT prompted, there's no reward, he doesn't need anything... he is just EXPRESSING HIS THOUGHTS!!! Salamat Lord! Kuya will soon go for two words... then phrases.. then sentences =)

... and since I don't want to post without a photo as much as I can, here's a collage from a few months back, that day when he got involved (for a few seconds) in cooking his super favorite fries.

focused tracing and a lot more!

  • Consistent expressive language: in saying "Hi Mommy" when he gets home from school, "Bye Mommy" before he enters school, "Help me"/"Fix" when he needs help on something, "More chicken"/ "More spring rolls" etc when he wants more.. and so many other meaningful phrases I can't remember :)
  • Lots of Social Smiles! When Daddy and I get home, when I tell him he is awesome for doing a great job, he expresses meaningful smiles and at times, he says "happy!" On our way to school today, at a crowded Admiralty Place, I tried to hide. He realised I wasn't there so he tried to go back a few steps til I called him. He looked at me with his SWEETEST smile I really hugged him tight and talked to him about my "practical joke" :)
Okay, that's all for now. He will be home shortly, I need to prep our study materials. Ciao!
